A pirate’s life!

Yesterday we went to the V&A Water front. We went on a pirate boat ride. There were tattoos for us and they did a pirate show for us. The boat looked like a real pirate ship. We saw other boats, seals, dolphins and penguins. The seat for the sailor was a barrel with a seat on top of the barrel. We were going to go to Robben Island but we didn’t. I don’t know why, but we didn’t go. There were two decks, with mostly the girls on the one side and mostly boys on the other side. Mrs. B sat at the bottom of the boat.

Our Senior Citizens project

I interviewed John, who is also my grandfather. When you have read about my senior citizen, please fill in the comment box and tell me about a senior citizen or grandparent that you know. Thanks.

John as a small child

Hi my name is John and I grew up as an only child .We lived in Bradford England. My mother was a house wife and my father was a wool buyer. In those days most men were in the armed forces in World War 2. The only thing I remember is that the man over the road smashed my pedal car and I was very upset. I played with model cars. We had to drink 200ml of milk a day. I also had to carry a gas mask to school.

John’s Primary School Days

The schools were cold and the desks had inkwells in them. We wrote with dipping pens. The subjets I remember were Arithmetic, Algebra, English, Geography and Geometry.

John as a teenager

We wore the same clothes we wear today. We did not have cell phones so we wrote letters to our friends. We rode bikes and played with friends in our spare time. I went on my first date when I was 15. We went on dates to the cinema, dancing, or for a walk. I liked watching Cowboys and Indians films. They were very popular when I was a kid. I also liked listening to light classical music.

Does John have any interesting information about his own grandparents?

One of my granddads had a brewery and the other was a regimental sergeant major. I know that my granddads also walked to school.

What advice can John give to help us in our lives?

Remember that NO spells N O!
